These are really good glasses: field of view and quality of image is great. These glasses will make you question why anyone would spend ten or more times the money on high priced/heavier binoculars and then take them out into nasty/wet outdoors.

Sightmark Ghost Hunter Night Vision

It showed up much faster than I had anticipated, 2 days before the scheduled delivery date which was cool. I personally dislike the headgear that came with the night vision, the chin plate is square, and it is all around uncomfortable. However, if you’re really good at improvising toys, you might want to try what I did. I bought a MICH style combat helmet, detatched the arm-piece from the night vision headgear, and hooked it up to the combat helmet. Now I have what looks like a Rangers helmet with night vision, which would’ve cost around $3500 to buy essentially the same product. The quality of the monocle is amazing, but an unexpected problem was determining downhills, only looking through one eye takes that ability away.

More of the Same from QuickBooks

Despite all of the hoopla surrounding each new version, this version offers nothing new to 99.9% of users. As a CPA I have helped clients with QuickBooks for over 15 years and during that time I have seen a steady erosion in the usefulness of the program. It is large and cumbersome and much slower than older versions. My experience with the maker, Intuit is that they are not really a software company as much as they are a marketing company, using what once was a great product to squeeze more revenue out of their customers. It’s still is a decent product, but don’t upgrade unless you absolutely have to. If you are a new user, examine other products before you commit yourself to this once great and now mediocre product.

The quickbooks extortion

Very long time QB user here. Nothing is new here. Just another bloated version of Quickbooks that will expire after a few years and force you to upgrade in order to continue to use the services that you are already using. Once they have you, there is no getting out because your entire business is on there. I still have the 2004 version on an old computer and it’s amazing how much more bloated this one is in comparison.

This is far from a “pro” software suite. It is a very basic program and anything else you want to do requires subscriptions – you want payroll?? HAHAHA silly you for thinking an accounting program should include that- no you gotta subscribe at $150 a year for “do it yourself”. You want attach documents to invoices on your own computer?? HAHAHAHA no…that’s a subscription. Do you want to save invoices as a PDF to email your customer? YOHOHO yeah you can do that… but Quickbooks is sneaky and they will tell YOUR customer to go to a website to pay online without asking you first and if you want to get your money, that’s a subscription.

I urge you to find alternatives if you are looking for an accounting software. If you are already a customer then you may not have any choice but to upgrade. It’s like the mafia.

PS. If you notice, most of the 5 star reviews on here are very suspicious and written by users who don’t have any other reviews or maybe a token review or vine users who got the product for free. Some might say that this is a conflict of interest and people associated with Intuit are writing fake reviews. You decide yourself. Would you trust a thoughtful review by someone who has hundreds of reviews and nothing to gain or lose by writing it, or great raving reviews by someone who just did their first review.

Another reason why this is a very dishonest company to deal with: Last year I paid $261.80 for Enhanced Payroll for unlimited users (even though we only have 6 employees). That was bad enough, but this year, they raised the price to $395 AND without notice, renewed my subscription. THIS is why people hate you Intuit. THIS is the sort of thing that your spin doctoring won’t cover up.

I have been experiencing a re-occurring problem with Quickbooks 2010 for the last six months. It is hard to understand the technicians at the other end of the phone, the response time has been reasonable, but it takes so long for them to fix the thing. My biggest concern is that the first thing the technician does is try to sell you a service contract. Four times I had to tell him I am a simplistic user, have been using it for 20 years and not needed a service contract yet. Still they kept trying to get me to buy the contract. Then they try and sell me the 2012 version which they say has fixed this problem. They want to sell this to me at a discount–which is $50 higher than the Amazon price. I suggest to them the reason for the problem is that there is an issue with the software (since they eliminated the problem in 2012) and I am told it is my machine. This is a money grubbing company that doesn’t care about its customers. After reading the comments here I will not upgrade since it is likely that I will experience other problems.

Buyer Beware

These reviews are nice, but read them carefully. This pair of bino’s doesn’t zoom, but curiously two reviewers praise the zoom anyway.

Likewise, another sounds like a commercial for Meade. Although I did read the Wall Street Journal article, and the author’s recommendation is why I’m buying a set of these.

Excellent for me & my guitar

I purchased this to use with an Acoustic Guitar at home. I am 6’1″, 190 lbs. It is easy to put together (5 mins or less). It is well constructed and very sturdy. It is very comfortable and you can adjust the seat height. Make sure you purchase or own a drum key (a four dollar item), as you will need it and it does not come with one in the box. Since i received it and put it together, i can comfortably play for 2 hours at a time while playing at home.

BEST VALUE OUT THERE!

Needed a new throne and I saw this one here on Amazon, I thought why not. I was about to spend ~$160 on a high end one (pork pie, dw, etc.) then I saw this one for almost half that…it’s a no brainer. It’s got everything you need in a drum throne without a ridiculous price tag. Threaded height adjustment, military grade legs and hardware (super thick and heavy), and it’s really comfy, what more could you ask for. Bottomline is I wanted a rock solid throne that is comfy with threaded height adjustment and I got just that….for half the price of what I expected to pay. Sure it’s not too fancy looking and doesn’t have an super thick padded seat with sparkles and zebra print but it’s strong and wont creep down when you play…that’s all that matters. On top of that Amazon came through, as always, with LIGHTNING fast shipping, it was at my door the NEXT DAY!

Gibralter throne, rock solid

I was looking for a throne since my dining room chairs never got me in the right position for playing the congas. In class I had used various thrones and I realized I didn’t like the 4 legged ones or the ones with wimpy supports. Ebay had deals on all the wimpy legged ones with skinny seats so when I saw this one on special at Amazon I snapped it up. Shipping was free so I expected it to be delivered via slow boat. It arrived the NEXT DAY. It’s solid, cushy and easily adjustable. The support mechanism is like a precise automotive tool. I’ve probably got about 20 hours of practice time on it so far and I couldn’t be happier, I’d recommend it.

Great scope!!

I bought this for my Mosin-Nagant 91/30 bolt action rifle chambered in 7.62x54r.

It’s exactly what I need. The bolt on the Mosin sticks out to the right without curving “downward” like most bolt action rifles do. So when you move the bolt to chamber a new round and eject the spend casing, it stands straight up. I got a rail adapter that is just forward of that so I could attach a scope, but it’s several inches forward of where you would normally have your scope. The long eye relief is a great solution for that. I was hoping for a 3-9 power, but 2-7 is still good. I recommend it if you have a Mosin-Nagant or other rifle where the scope is farther up the barrel than usual.

This with a set of Leapers Accushot 1 Rings, Medium, 3/8 Dovetail, 4 Screws/Cap is the perfect setup for the Mosin if you want something more secure than the flat weaver rail that goes on top of of the rear site, don’t want to mod the bolt handle and can’t afford/don’t want to buy an actual Soviet sniper scope for your rifle.

The title speaks for itself, I am shocked how awesome this product is for this price. The illuminated cross hairs option (different shades of green and red) is a great option for targets with a dark colored back drop.

I’m using the “no drill” rear sight rail system on a Mosin Nagant, the long eye relief is literally the perfect distance option for that gun

Surprisingly Entertaining

Ye’ll be a bold scug to say no to the Primer

George Choundas and the folks at Writers Digest Books have published a handsomely bound book that should grace your pirate library. The look and feel of this book is absolutely fabulous. I’m sure some will wait for a soft cover edition to be printed but if you are one of them you will miss out on one of the joys of this book. The illustrations on the end pages and quality of the paper used for the interior pages make this hard bound first edition a must. If this book comes out in soft cover, it will be impossible to duplicate this fine workmanship.

As the subtitle of the Pirate Primer suggest, the book deals with the language of pirates. However, in discovering the language; you do learn something of the pirate life, both in fact and fiction. Choundas does not limit himself to the language of actual pirates but tackles the language as presented in works of literature, motion picture and television. In every case, the author states the word or phrase, provides a short definition and then provides an example of how the word or phrase is used. Choundas provides a citation for the examples which inform the reader of where they came from.

The book does not stop there. It also includes an entire chapter on the most famous pirate word uttered; that being “arrrgh!” It will come as no surprise to most pirate enthusiasts that are smart as paint that real pirates didn’t say “arrrgh!”

The book also includes a lexicon of nautical terms that are sure to please anyone who has ever tried to read a seafaring book. You’ll also get a section on food, drink, weapons and women.

If this isn’t enough, you’ll learn a hundreds of ways to greet your fellow pirate, bid the same adieu, and curse or compliment him/her.

And like a late night TV ad, I have to say “But wait, there’s more.” The book goes into great detail on how to form a pirate sentence, the use of adverbs and adjectives, positioning verbs, the use of transitive verbs, and other grammar rules as they apply to pirates Choundas actually covers the language as an English teacher would but the difference is you’ll actually enjoy this textbook.

Did I mention the collection of Ship’s Articles at the end of the book? Yep! You even get ship’s articles with the Primer.

All in all, the entire book is a joy to read and joy to look at. Probably the only drawback is the lack of pictures. (That, and Choundas doesn’t include any quotes from the movie The Black Swan) But let’s face it; most of the pictures found in pirate books tend to be the same ones found everywhere else. In closing, not only will this book get you ready for the next Talk Like a Pirate Day, it will also make you want to rewatch all those old pirate movies and perhaps buy a pirate novel you haven’t already read. The book will also act as a handy reference tool for the aspiring pirate author or acotr. Aye matey, This be your book if a pirate you must be.

A Welcome Addition

This is a great volume for a writer to add to his library. As people have probably mentioned, it’s separated into handy categories such as “Retorts” and “Malapropisms.” My only caveat for a writer of historical fiction is to watch out for the fictional sources, which seem to be the majority. I’m not sure how authentic they are and I’m wary of that. I’d stick with sources like “General History of the Pyrates,” Woodes Rogers, Exquemelin, and William Dampier. I feel safe with Defoe and Marryat, as they were experienced seamen writing for contemporaries.

Good, Gimmicky Golf Glass

After a number of noteworthy nature encounters on the golf course, I decided it would be wise to purchase a compact binocular for my golf bag. To that end, I purchased the Bushnell Powerview 7-15×25 reverse porro prism binocular.

My overall impression has been quite positive. At 7x magnification, the optics are wholly sufficient, providing crisp, bright views with only minor distortion toward the edges. The 262 foot (@ 1000 yards) field-of-view is somewhat narrow, but appears clear and deep.

Taking the magnification higher, the optical quality predictably declines. At full 15x zoom, the field-of-view shrinks to 183 feet at 1000 yards, and significantly less light passes through, leaving objects conspicuously darker by contrast. Nevertheless, the higher magnification can reveal details that are not visible at 7x, provided that the user has a very steady hand and good eyes to begin with.

The zoom function itself is intuitive and simple, completed with a quarter-turn of the collar that frames the right eye cup. The instruction manual recommends beginning at full zoom, then drawing back. This way, less refocusing is required. I prefer to begin with the full field-of-view, increasing magnification if desired. It is entirely possible to increase from 7x to 15x without losing sight of an object, but some refocusing is required once the desired magnification has been reached.

Relative to price, I am quite pleased with the Bushnell Powerview binocular. It fits comfortably in a small pocket in my golf bag, and provides excellent views at lower magnifications. I am, as yet, unsure what value to place upon the zoom feature. Whether it will be of use to you depends upon how you weigh the relative importance of magnification versus light-gathering capacity. While the zoom feature is somewhat amusing, consumers in search of a quality optical instrument will find a nice, standard compact to be a superior purchase.

PRO’S:
- Optics at lower magnification are crisp, clear, and bright.
- Size: fits comfortably in a large pocket.
- Appearance: well-designed reverse porro compact.
- Eye Relief: Fold-down rubber eye-cups make viewing through sunglasses (and presumably eyeglasses) possible.

CON’S:
- Optics at higher magnification are darker and more difficult to focus.
- Not comfortable for extended viewing.
- No objective lens covers.

Best bang for your buck

It would be tough to find better binoculars for the same price. I bought these for safari in Africa and they worked well. I especially liked the zoom feature. With just a high-power binocular, it’s hard to find what you’re looking for. With these, you find what you want at 7X, then zoom in.

I would have liked to have had a slightly more powerful binocular in a few places (maybe 25X), but overall they were great. We were able to get close enough to most animals to see them well with the binoculars. They were still bright enough even on a cloudy day, which can be a problem for compact binoculars. Best of all, they’re cheap enough that you don’t have to worry too much about damaging or losing them.

I was planning on selling mine when I got back, but I’m going to keep them.

Bushnell Compact Binocular 7-15-25

This binocular is light and compact. The optics are good, focusing is smooth. The adjustment of magnification 7 to 15 times, is a bit tight and bumpy. I usually live it half way, at 10 magnification, also not to decrease the luminosity at the higher power. I have another compact binocular, a Nikon with fixed power of 10. I would rate it better than this one, but it is more expensive. The Bushnell is clear and sharp and does what it is supposed to do. Great binocular for the price, but if you don’t need the zoom, stick to a solid, simple, 10 power unit.

Great Price

These are really nice binoculars for the money. I got them for my wife for christmas so she could go hunting with me, and I actually think her’s are nicer than mine for less money. They compare with glasses that cost quite a bit more in my opinion, and I have tried a few.

I’m impressed with the solid design of these binoculars. Very sharp image at a good distance. I use them for birdwatching and they produce a crisp and clear image. A little heavy but ok for this price range and 10x magnification!

These are easily worth every penny. The binoculars are very well made, waterproof, rubberized and have two focusing mechanisms one for those with eyeglasses and one for those without. I Highly recommend these!
