Great Binoculars for Birding!

I received the Bushnell Natureview 8×40 Birder Combo yesterday. I am very pleased with my purchase. I enjoy bird-watching and this binocular is perfect for my needs. The 8x magnification is great for seeing the birds in my yard or on my feeders up close and in detail and with no distortion or “handshake” like the higher magnifications have. For the price the clarity of the Bushnell Natureview is unbelievable. The wider 40mm objective lens diameter allows for great bird-watching in the early morning hours and in the late evening. The deluxe strap is strong and well-made, the rubber exterior is comfortable for extensive holding and for absorbing shocks and repelling water, and the fold-down eyecups are great for those with glasses.

Heavier than I thought

I was expecting a smaller and lighter unit. Okay for backyard use, but was heavy and awkward to use sitting in a canoe and trying to locate birds while moving. I didn’t have time to ship these back and switch out before my trip. Price is reasonable.

Seemed like a bargain, but…

As others have stated, these binoculars are great when they’re new. But after 3 years, the lenses have worked their way totally out of alignment. One side “sees” substantially higher and to the right of the other. They’re headed for the trash bin. I haven’t treated these binoculars with kid gloves. But I haven’t abused them or dropped them either.

These would make a fine choice if you’re going to keep your binoculars in the house and take them no further than your own back yard. But if you plan to pack them in your bag or use them in the great (and let’s face it, not always gentle) outdoors, look elsewhere.
